In 1994, founder Mohammed Eslami was a young engineer with vision and a passion for the environment. He worked on an innovative way to treat electroplating chemical waste for safe disposal. The Ontario Ministry of the Environment honoured his incredible design by presenting him an award. Following a presentation dinner, then Premier Bob Rae told young Mohammed,
“You will be a very successful person in the environmental field, so stick to it. We need more people like you in Ontario.”
That moment of positive reinforcement and casual mentoring had a profound impact. Mohammed went on to mentor the next generation and build a number of ventures that were both socially responsible and financially successful. The time came when he wanted to, and could do more. The result is Cyrus Youth Foundation.
