In 1994, founder Mohammed Eslami was a young engineer with vision and a passion for the environment. He put that to work on an innovative way to treat electroplating chemical waste for safe disposal and was honoured with an award from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for his design. Following a presentation dinner, young Mohammed was taken aside by then Premier Bob Rae who told him, “You will be a very successful person in the environmental field, so stick to it. We need more people like you in Ontario.”
That moment of positive reinforcement and casual mentoring had a profound impact. Mohammed went on to mentor the next generation and build a number of ventures that were both socially responsible and financially successful. The time came when he wanted to, and could do more. The result is Cyrus Youth Foundation.
